    Treatment In Other Countries

I was just wondering how treatment for thyroid problems are handled in other countries? Do they use the same medicines and surgery as a last resort?

Well there is a doctor from China who claims he can treat Graves' Disease using an arterial embolization of the thyroid. It is from an old article, but perhaps it isn't established in other places yet?

I'm sure if you go to some native tribe in the jungle they might know the exact plant to use in the treatment. Of course you might have to do a few dances and walk around naked, but at least you might be cured .

In the US your options for hyperthyroidism are antithyroid meds (Tapazole or PTU), radioactive iodine and surgery. It's usually in that order. They try the medication initially to see if you feel more human on that before moving on to the other two options if need be. My understanding is it depends on the severity of your condition and your age what's recommended as treatment.

It's exactly the same here in the UK.

They start you off Carbimazole and if u do well, then medicines are the way to go.

In my case, whenever I came off Carbimazole, I had hyper symptoms again, hence I opted to RAI. Surgey is also an option and here patient has a choice to whichever method he/she prefers.

The only trouble with surgery is you have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days

    Re: Treatment In Other Countries

Recently when I was visiting India, there was an advertisement saying that there is treatment for Thyroid condition using "Unani" medicine. I am not sure what kind of treatment that is or how effective it is. Later I did check online to see if "unani" is a legitimate method of treatment and learned that it is been in business for almost 2000 years.
