    Age for signs

Is there a specific age at which you can see thyroid problems evident or can it happen at anytime from birth?

    Re: Age for signs

Hi susan, there is particularly no age for developing thyroid disorders. Be it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, it can affect any age-group in general population. Manifestations in different age-groups may vary to some extent, however, the characteristic signs and symptoms are generally the same in every patient.

By the way, the terms might be different in some cases. For example, hypothyroidism in a newborn or a young child is also known as "Cretinism".

    Re: Age for signs

As the case of my 1.5 year old niece demonstrates, thyroid problems can happen at any age. She had thyroid problems even from her birth as she was born prematurely and grossly underweight.
