    'Hyperthyroid' and 'hypothyroid'

Is there a difference between 'hyperthyroid' and 'hypothyroid'? Notice the "hypo-" and "hyper-".

    Re: 'Hyperthyroid' and 'hypothyroid'

Hi Susan! The simplest explanation would be that in a case of hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland is underactive and in hyperthyroidism, it's overactive.

Here's an overview of both from the official NHS site : Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism.
