    Hyper Functioning Thyroid

I've heard that some people are born with a hyper functioning thyroid, but at the same time they also have the drawback of being prone to low blood pressure and headaches. Is there any truth to that?

    Re: Hyper Functioning Thyroid

Not quite sure about that but most thyroid patients take this illness from their family. I don't know anyone in my family having Hyperthyroidism but I have suffered from it hence it could be anything to be honest resulting from diet change or stress.

When you say they take this illness from their family you mean it is inherited from birth?

I don't know about the headaches but usually if your thyroid is on steroids then you are going to have a very fast metabolism and not fat at all. Count it as a gift!

This is not exactly right.....you could be skinny but then your heart will be working hard and your body will under a lot of stress hence if the organs have to work more than they are supposed to, they may fail one day

Exactly. The hyper function may lead to weight loss but then you find yourself suffering in other areas. That isn't much of a 'gift'.

    Re: Hyper Functioning Thyroid

That's very true. Some people like to look thin and wish they could be a little hyperthyroid. But hyperthryoidism has other problems and the most important is heart problems. The most common heart problem is atrial fibrillation, where the heart races out of control. Although atrial fibrillation is most often associated with hyperthyroidism, I did know of one person who had hypothyroidism and developed atrial fibrillation.
