Thumbs up Eltroxin by Goldshield no more in production - MercuryPharma

Just been to the pharmacist and was told that Eltroxin is no more manufactuered hence it's unavailable to order. Tried googling it and apparently goldshielf was sold to MercuryPharma and now Eltroxin is coming in different packages. Will update the thread with pictures and if there is any difference in the formula etc.

    A reply from MercuryPharma representative

Notice of temporary unavailability of Eltroxin tablets

    Dear Patient

Mercury Pharmaceuticals may have been supplying your thyroid medication in two forms; Eltroxin or levothyroxine tablets.

The Eltroxin tablets are likely to be temporarily unavailable in the near future. This may mean that the pharmacist will give you levothyroxine tablets instead at exactly the same strength (after checking with your doctor). Switching to levothyroxine tablets is very unlikely to cause any problems as the two forms are the same and are produced by the same manufacturer. The main difference between the two is their respective names and accompanying packaging.

If you have any problems please let your doctor know.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Please contact Mercury Pharma Medical Information department in case of any queries:

So basically now after the takeover of goldshield, Eltroxin is a brand name for the levothyroxine manufactured by MercuryPharma. The exact same tablets are also packaged in generic MercuryPharma packaging. There is a possibility that your local pharmacist will say that they only produce generic but the fact is they produce both generic and the Eltroxin. But as stated above there is currently shortage of Eltroxin and I would imagine, slowly and gradually they will phase Eltroxin out all together.

Will have to wait and see. Good luck to everyone who was taking Eltroxin.
