    'Quirky' thyroid test results

Had my latest test results yesterday.

T4 has gone up from 19 to 26 (on the same dose) reference range 10-23.

Doc would normally be wanting to reduce my dose a little but most of the original symptoms have come back and my TSH has suddenly shot up which has baffled him completely so he's referred me to an endocrinologist.

My thyroid failed completely about 18 months ago and I've been on levothyroxine since, on 125mcg for about 6 months now.

What's going on? I've not been able to find any info online which explains high T4 and high TSH.

In the last 2 weeks I've also suddenly started losing weight for no apparent reason. Is this the high T4 or could I have something really nasty?

It's quite strange @BennyP that your FT4 gone up so suddenly. Two possible causes I could think of.....

One is that you started to get better absorption due to a reason or other. Reason could be change in diet like taking medicines with food or milk and now just on empty stomach and no food within an hour etc. Unlikely to make that high spike....did for me though hence I thought I'll mention it.

Other could be that your body stopped coverting T4 to T3 hence T4 supply is getting built up. You have to get your FT3 numbered checked to get the full picture. T4 and TSH wont tell you what's happening. Having said that, with High T4 and high TSH, it definitely means something is broken within the body's feedback system. You wouldnt lose weight on high TSH so something is not right.

. My family are telling me to just chill and wait for the appointment but I'm a worrier. It's just plain weird what's going on now.
