    Help Balloon block replace therapy

    hi there

I have started block replace therapy, basically Im going to take 30mg of carbimazole daily for 4 weeks, have a a blood test and then my consultant will tell me if this has shut down my thyroid gland to begin taking thyroxine and bring my thyroid levels to a normal range. has anyone else got experiences from this treatment?

my thyroid battle has gone on for over 6 years and with 2 relapses. I am a bit concerned about this new approach, it means I will be taking high doses of carbimazole and Im not keen on it, yet Im not keen on having surgery or iodine treatment, hence my consultant put me on this...

    any feedback will be great

    thanks

    Rompom x

@rompom it seems quite challenging as thyroid medication can take upto 4 weeks to build up so you'll be struggling to get the hormones right.

I strongly hope it goes well for you as otherwise you'll be left with the last option of removing thyroid all together....which would be worse decision.
Keep us updated with the progress.

Hi. I've posted under a few block and replace questions. I did it 20 years ago, and am still in remission! I think mine was done a little differently. I was taking the combination for an entire year.. and then I went on just a low dose of synthroid. I've been on synthroid ever since with the idea of keeping the thyroid from waking up. I'm actually HYPOthyroid now, which is fine with me. They just upped my dosage of synthroid (Levothyroxine) to .75 a day.

@IslandBreeze I was hyper but I didnt do it and I was not given an option either I believe. I am just thinking if it's a better treatment for hyper than removing thyroid all together or destroying it.

How do you feel overall anyway? Were you mildly hyper?
