    Question Hi

I have just joined the group and hope I am posting in the right area. It is nice to be able to share the problems of hypothyroidism with others as I feel so alone with this problem.
I am having trouble at the moment with my drugs. I feel that the Levothyroxine I am receiving is inferior to my previous prescriptions. I have since found out that my medication has changed from one manufacturer to another and I have been taking tablets from different companies for each strength. I have had to increase the dosage after blood test showed I was under active on the normal dose. I asked my Doctor if I could have Eltroxin instead of the generic form and was refused. I have contacted my local health board who are not very helpful. All in all I am very disheartened.

Hi Yogi, welcome to the board,.

sorry your feeling unwell at the moment,. depending on where you live, if in the UK I know Superdrug's give out Eltroxin, as standard.

The golden rule, is whatever brand your on, stick to it, and don't take different brands at one time. They have different fillers in, and they can affect the absorbency and potency of the drug. so to stick to the one will help long term..

    Maybe speak to a specialist?

    Hope this helps

    Re: Hi

Specialist wouldnt listen to you. Same thing happened in my case and I was given generic thyroxine which kept changing and I wasnt very happy. Spoke to my GP and he refused saying they all the same.

I made a little research and then went to speak to the Head of the clinic and told her that due to different binders being used in different brands, I need to stick to one and the solution for this is to use a branded one, Eltroxin. After much debate, she agreed and now I only take Eltroxin.

I know you'll have a little bit hard time but eventually, you can get it done....just need to be little consistent and go to them with a bit of knowledge so they dont have much to say.

    Good Luck

    Re: Hi

Hi Yogi and welcome to the forum.

I had the same trouble with different brands and mu doctor refused to help, but I had a word with my
pharmacist and although he didn't believe that the different brands had different effects, he agreed to
give me the same brand each time for continuity, Now, if they send the wrong sort I just return it and
wait till I have what I want. You do need to have a bit in hand for this, though.

I hope you are doing well on your meds apart from this problem
