    Premature Ovarian Failure

    Good morning

Feeling pretty desperate and confused following my appointment yesterday.

I saw Pit specialist this is what she said:

She said my thyroid is normal, it is in the low end, but normal. I showed her my private tests including the T3, she said the t3 has spurts through the day where it would be low. I said I am taking Armour and DHEA she knew about Amour and said 10 mg DHEA wont do anything!! She said my thyroid is not low enough to treat and its not due to cost as thyroid tablets are about 80p a month.

PCOS - She doesnt think I have the syndrome I just have cysts on my ovaries. She said Ive already been tested for diabtetes. I asked about IR test she said I dont have IR thats pre diabetes and they ve tested me for diabetes (via blood test, I thought you had to drink the glucose). She said she is concerened at how low my estrogen and even with my thyroid being a bit low it wouldnt stop my periods and make my estrogen so low!!!

She went out the room and spoke to some others and came back and said its either Premature Ovarian Failure or something wrong with the pituitary. She said my TSH doesn't show a pituitary problem by blood tests but she wants to speak to the consultant at Barts to find out the results of my MRI (had on Saturday) to see if theres a problem with my pituitary gland..

Ive got to have bone scans due to my low estrogen and my endermetrial lining is very thin due to my low estrogen. She said even if i took the pill it wouldnt be enough to bring my estrogen to normal.

She couldnt understand my food problems and kept talking about celiac again. I said I do feel less tiered since starting the armour!! She said in the olden days they used to give it to you as a antidepressant as it would give you a boost even if you arent hypothyroid???!!! it would make you feel like you could do anything ...what is she going on about here!!!???? I said do you need me to stop the Armour, she said no and that she is doing some blood tests to check for POF and to see what my thyroid is doing now Iam on Armour!!

Anyway, thy are having a meeting Friday and are going to dicsuss what to do with me!! she is going to call me on my mobile on FRiday and has booked an open appointment for me so she can just bring me in when she needs to.

Isnt premature ovarian Failure linked to Hashmiotos??

I am so upset , if I cant have kids and why's it taken 3 years to work out i have POF if i do ...

She said if you have POF you will never be the same person you were 3 years ago ( does she want me to get more depressed!!) I said I am concerned that Ive had a stroke, she said if you have that will never go back to normal...she was very blunt...

Any opinions would be great I dont know what to think to be honest..

    xx

Hi Mandy FIRSTLY TAKE A STEP BACK! You nor the Endo knows nothing yet. I have been frightened by Endos in the past with them saying I could have a Pituitary problem (more than likely a tumour) I had an MRI and it was clear. I think she is just saying out loud the possible causes for the blood test results. Your Thyroid could be the reason for your ????? Ovarian failure????? But I would say although very very frightening dont presume anything until your have been told what the result of the MRI is and make sure you get to the bottom of all this!

An a lighter note, Im pleased your feeling less tired on Armour that excellent news!!!

I know what you are going through sufferring with Anxiety from Thyroid disease is a bitch, and makes hearing news like yours so much more frightening. What if? Answer the what if and then the fear wont be so great!

Keep on fighting you will be rewarded thumbup

    Re: Premature Ovarian Failure

hun, really nice of you to reply did help me..

Yeah, since then Ive been reading about it and your FSH needs to be high and mine isnt !!

They ve told me so many things that I should know better than to get so upsett but theres only so much a girl can take and if i couldnt have kids due to thier neglegence I would be devestated!!

I dont think I have it (fingers crossed) They also said I had pcos 4 times and now I dont !!

The other thing which I am concerened about is the gyne said I had pcos and needed an IR test and diabetes and I asked about it and she said Id been tested for diabetes but it was onloy a random glucose test!! My diet is candida free, celiac free, low gi and low carbs (diabetes diet). I am sure there are other tests that they shold of done like the GTT test Ive never had that and thought I would do as I know drinking glucose would make me ill tehy should really have done teh test. I suffer bad hypoglycemia if i dont eat right too.

She doesnt think I have a pit problem as per my blood results but she wants to have a look at the mri and call me friday.

They havent tested all my pit hormones either not tested cortisol, acth, aldo / renin etc...or my B vits vit D etc..so they havent done enough to eliminate anything..

If I do have POF I have read hashmitos can cause it like quite a few of the autoimmune diseases and i do have an autoimmune marker...

Armour - yep I do feel different not as tiered when i wake up now but I still have the problem when i excersise it wipes me out so i think that is my adrenals, I am hoping to get my cortisol tested and start some HC but if they wont test it I may have to self treat my adrenals..

I cant wait to get some estrogen in my body as I do look wrinkly for my age well my skin is a bit saggy but the consultant said taht estrogen add suppleness to your skin and without it you will get wrinkles she assured me that will improve with estrogen. She also said if I have POF they will help me to get pregnant IVF i suppose..

, Happy new year sorry not been on here been up at london hospitals constant since new year..

    Hugs

    Re: Premature Ovarian Failure

Excellent news Mandy!! Its great you were able to reassure yourself with the help from the internet and cold hard facts. I know how scary doctors can be in my case Endocrinoligists last year they put the fear of god into me, I honestly though I was not long for this world!!!

You have hope, its such along drawn out process, I first saw an Endo in 2006 after 3 years of sufferring and Im only just feeling well!!!

Keep us updated Mandy, if I can get better anyone can thumbup Keep up the good work! and in my experience its not until we take some repsonsibility for our own health instead of thinking a doctor has all the answers that we start to feel better!! Your doing this with Armour. And its great thumbup

She said in the olden days they used to give it to you as a antidepressant as it would give you a boost even if you arent hypothyroid???
I think it is one of those cases where the poor depressed person probably was having some thyroid problems the doctor had not diagnosed. After all, if the person didn't need the TH they would get symptoms of hyper which are not good, it would put them in danger of bone loss, heart problems and would be an irresponsible thing to prescribe as an anti d. Thats my opinion anyway, correct or not.
I am hoping you have got something sorted by now.
I have Hashis and was told I was in the menopause ages ago but since I got on armour I have gone back into like a perimenopause state. These hormones mess with us when they are low.
I am going to try a natural hrt from America to see if it gets rid of the rest of my symptoms.
    lotsa luv
