    Vocal chords after surgery

Does your voice sound significantly different if you have surgery on your thyroid or does it not affect it?

Although it is not directly aiming at your chords I would imagine that your throat and inner tissue will be swollen so it will be hard to swallow let alone speak properly.

    Re: Vocal chords after surgery

For a while after my thyroidectomy my voice was very weak and croaky and i felt as if i was running out of breath when speaking. My surgeon was very surprised when it had returned to normal as he had thought that the damage may have been permanent. But as i have two children to boss around i suppose my vocal cords were given a daily work out and got strong again!! However, now, if i talk too much my voice becomes strained and croaky and i still feel like i am gasping for air when speaking long sentences. Not to trivalise the problem but on the positive side my phone bill has become cheaper!!
