    Hypothyroidism and Heart Failure

An interesting finding in medical research recently has linked subclinical hypothyroidism with heart failure. This is interesting because: 1) subclinical means you don't actually have hypothyroidism yet, but may in the future; and 2) the link was not found with subclinical hyperthyroidism, and overt hyperthyroidism is strongly link to heart failure.

    Hi Mandy,

Good to see you and sorry to hear you are having problems with NHS

NHS doctors wont treat you if your thyroid results are within lab range. Don't really know why doctors have to be so stupid. They should always listen to the patients and treat them with their symptoms rather than lab results.

You've got to find another doctor who would listen to you and then can either treat u himself or refer you to a specialist Endo.

Hope things work out for you

    Re: Hypothyroidism and Heart Failure

    Thank you ..

I am going to one in london tomorrow I just wish I knew this before. I sold my car paying for private / nhs but didnt get anywhere. Now I know what to do no money left!!! Its disgusting isnt it..

THe one iam going to treats with armour, natural and bio dentical hormones and they have said I am hypo but also have something else going on at the same time.

I am waiting to see neuromuscular consultant about my weakness. My face isnt that bad apart from its deviated my jaw to teh right and my smile is crooked, and my neck is in a spasm and my leg is floppy..

Can anything else cause weakness on one side I really hope its not a stroke I had as it was a year ago and my chances of recovering 100% will be small if they dont help me soon. Can thyroid cause neuromuscular conditions?? I have heard of Hashmitos Encepalitis but Ive just seem a pit specialist on the nhs and she just said tests all normal.

She sent me some of them, but wouldnt give me GH or antithyroid antibodies!!! Could heart failure cause weakness on one side??

    Sorry Iam so scared

    Re: Hypothyroidism and Heart Failure

Let us know how the test goes Amanda.

RE your neuromuscular questions, I found this

Thyroid hormones exert multiple effects on the neuromuscular system and the brain, with the most important being their role in stimulating the development and differentiation of the neuromuscular system and brain in foetal and neonatal life. In the presence of hyperthyroidism, muscular and neurological symptoms may be the presenting clinical features of the disease. The frequency and severity of neuromuscular complications vary considerably and are probably related to the degree of hyperthyroidism, although in some patients the neuromuscular dysfunction is caused by associated disorders rather than by hyperthyroidism per se. This update focuses on the most common neurological and muscular disorders that occur in patients with thyrotoxicosis. It is beyond the scope of this paper to discuss thyroid eye disease and cardiac complications, in themselves separate complications of specific myocytes.

It seems like muscle disease may be related to Hyperthyroidism rather than being hypo. But I remember you saying you are being diagnosed as Hypo....it's quite complicated. Wonder if anyone else can help?

    Re: Hypothyroidism and Heart Failure

    Thank you x

Well the doctor in london has said its sounds like hypo as my T4 is low but Ive read it can swing from high to low. I wonder if smoking gives you hyper..probably silly thing to say..

There is another one I found which is Hashmitos Encepalitis, the symptoms is right sided weakness simular to a stroke, which is what I have..

I asked the pit specialist about it and asked her to give the thyroid antibodies results but she wouldnt give them to me, said no problem with hormones!!!!

I am hoping that the neuromuscular guy will link it to my hormones or something my weakness. It in my face, neck, arm and leg..I thought id had a stroke I was on a nother planet when it happened, lost control of my bowels, pale clamy skin, personailty change like i was hullucinating or gone a bit mad sort of thing..

I dont know..unless its one of the autoimmune as i have positive ana 1:80 speckled pattern. Mysthaita Gravis or something god knows..but the way ive been thobbed off by nhs I dont trust them with any of it..

    thanks for your support

    Re: Hypothyroidism and Heart Failure

as long as your Thyroid is treated properly we should be fine, its those who arent treated properly who are most at risk, and people who are never diagnosed!
