Problems after thyroid surgery

Rate this Entry
Hi, wondered if anyone out there has had a similar problem to me. I am at my wits end.........

Basically 3 years ago when I was 47 I had half my thyroid gland removed as it had a large tumour on it. I've never felt well since as I've had extreme exhaustion & loads of hypothyroid symptoms. I've seen countless G.P.s who all say my blood tests are "normal". They are NOT normal for me though!!!

My readings before surgery used to be at the top end of the scale. Now my T.S.H. is 2.8 & my T4 is 14. I now have extreme tingling pins/needles in my hands /feet & I feel like sleeping all day as I'm too tired to do anything. Before surgery my iron store (ferritin levels) were very high now they are below normal at 8 so I'm on prescribed iron which has made my symptoms worse since I've been taking them. I know I need thyroxine but cannot get my G.P. to prescribe any. HELP!!

Please can anyone advise me? Jillyana
